Honda: Wrong Way

Honda sponsored a group of designers to do a four-week competition to create interactive alert systems in a wrong way scenario. Our team was given the scenario of a 17 year old driver turning on a one way road at the wrong direction. Honda ranked our team first place for innovative thinking, seamless storytelling and connecting to the audience.

At the end of the four-week competition, we presented our concept to Honda’s Ann Arbor based engineers and Honda’s Los Angeles HMI leads.

Our team designed a personal, humanistic and context aware interactive alert system for Generation Z. The interactive system has preventative, high risk and low risk resolutions for solo and collaborative scenarios. Drivers are warned with red or yellow interior lights coupled with haptic feedback in the chairs. Other technologies utilized are V2V, steering wheel heartbeat and weight detection.

What the process looked like –

This was my first sponsored project with CCS. Prior to this project, I never thought I had interest in automotive. This process showed me that I enjoy thinking outside of what currently exists and that I enjoy working collaboratively.

One of my roles in this project was helping orchestrate the low-fi body storming, ideation and oral presenting. Some of the areas I took lead on were the “collaborative mode” and the interview process and making personas for our Gen Z demographic.
